In Diana's Honor: The Gift of Early Detection

To know Diana Hensel is to know what true selflessness and a charitable spirit look like.

A beloved DaVita teammate, devoted wife, and loving mother of two, Diana has always been someone who shows up for others. She deeply honors her roots, takes pride in where she comes from, and brings that same authenticity, compassion, and generosity to everything she does. When Diana was diagnosed with cancer, her teammates wanted to rally around her and raise funds to help support her during her treatment.

Diana had another idea.
She asked that the generosity intended for her instead be directed to Bridge of Life, an organization and mission that became especially meaningful after she volunteered at a Community Health Experience (CHEx) screening event in Orlando serving a Haitian community.

The Program That Brought Diana to Bridge of Life
Early Detection & Screening is where Diana’s connection to Bridge of Life began.  Through these programs, Bridge of Life works alongside communities to provide screenings for kidney disease and related risk factors such as high blood pressure and diabetes, conditions that can progress silently until significant damage has already occurred. Screening creates an opportunity to identify risk earlier, provide education, and connect people with appropriate follow-up care.

Today, Bridge of Life supports early detection efforts in communities across the United States, Guatemala, Bolivia, and Uganda and beyond, while exploring opportunities to expand this work to additional communities… including Haiti.

Diana’s choice says so much about who she is.  At a moment when others wanted to care for her, she chose to care for others.
